It was clear very early on in Matt Moss' life that playing the drums is what he is meant to do.  He got his very first drum set at age 4, and from that point on, he never turned away.  Matt has been influenced heavily by all kinds of music and musicians, but most of all, the band Little Feat and their drummer, Richie Hayward.  Little Feat played a huge role in Matt's musicianship and personality.  Going to countless Little Feat shows as a young boy and becoming close with the band, drove him to want to do nothing except play drums, day in and day out.  He has sat in with the band many times over the years, and in fact, the first time he ever played with any other musicians was at age 6, with Little Feat.  

Matt grew up and went to school in Humboldt County, California, but grew tired with the lack of music classes halfway through his high school education, so he moved to Los Angeles. He attended the Hamilton High School Academy of Music where he was able to play with some of the finest young jazz players in the country.  Graduating from the Academy helped him become even more of a versatile musician, as he had never played in a big band setting before attending.  

Matt has recently come upon a new medium of expression, and that is songwriting. You should anticipate hearing some of those songs on the next Steel Toed Slipers album.
